Gardening Tips-propagate from cuttings

Cuttings

are the technique to grow a plant from a leaf or a branch to make a new copy of the plant.

There are 2 ways to do this.

1. Leaf Cuttings - Use a leaf to grow a plant.

2. Branch Cuttings - Use a branch to make it to a plant.

Leaf cutting

very simple. Try it and enjoy

1. Where to Cut the Leaf.

Basically better to cut off 1/3 of the leaf from the bottom.

2. Make sure the leaf won't move after inserting it in the soil.

3. I used 50% of akadama small grain and 50% of completely dried moss.

I would recommend to use 100% dried moss which means it doesn't have any green moss in it.

100% dried moss

New Zealand Sphagnum Moss This dried moss is really good for plant propagation. I always use this.

Akadama Small and hard Grain When doing Branch cuttings to propagate, use this soil by itself. No mix, For leaf cuttings, mix with akadama, kanuma or vermiculite. These soils are germ free and this fact is very important to propagate plants because the plants get sick from its cut if the soil is not germ free.

I used dried moss and akadama mix (ratio 50:50) for this leaf cuttings.

Branch cuttings

How to prepare the branch

1. is ok just like I did in the video.(water dries out faster from leaves)

2. is better and how it's usually prepared. The reason is that the plant can manage more its energy to grow the roots and can keep water.

3.Try to pick the branch with leaves.(it needs to do photosynthesis. At least better to have 5 leaves)

How to cut the branch to grow roots from

1 Flat Cut. Roots grow evenly from the cut

2 One Side Cut. Roots can have more rooms to grow from.

3 Double Side Cut. Same as above.

4 Round Cut. More rooms and better chance to grow roots evenly.

Leave the branch in water.

Keep them in water at least one hour so they can have lots of water before inserting them in the soil.

And Put it in your soil and wait about 1 month.

And

works.

I used  Hard Akadama small Grain for this.

Before using any soil, I recommend to rinse the soil  by pouring water a lot so all the broken soil will come out of the drain hole of the pot. All the brown water becomes clear it's ready to use. All those sandy soil in the pot will kill the room where air can go through and makes the branch cuttings rotten before they grow roots on themselves
